Ashli’s Journey: Destination Travel Agent

EPISODE 4 SHOW NOTES

I’m very excited to have another incredible guest, Ashli Shockley, on the podcast today!

Ashli Shockley is a travel agent, mom, and all-around awesome person I’ve gotten to connect with in my new town. Ashli has always had a love for travel, which led her to starting her own travel agency, World on a String Travel. She believes in the 3 E’s of travel: Exciting, Engaging, and Enthralling. She also knows a 4th E, Exhausting, can pop up when you’re trying to plan your trip alone. Ashli is passionate about helping her clients plan a vacation that’s just right for them, and ultimately, have their world on a string.

In today’s episode, we’re talking all about what a travel agent does, as well as:

  • Ashli’s story of getting into entrepreneurship from a young age, to eventually starting her own travel agency. Ashli grew up with 2 parents who owned their own businesses, and she’s been working since she was 12 years old. She previously had a business making sock puppets (which she loved), and she even worked for another travel agency when she first got into this space. Ultimately, she knew she needed to be her own boss, and do things her own way, which led to her starting her own travel agency.

  • Ashli’s favorite part of her job. Ashli loves getting to hyper-focus on her clients when she’s helping them plan their trips. She dives all in on the details and everything she can do to make their trip the best possible experience. Once she’s done, she gets to move on, and help the next person, couple, family, etc.!

  • What it’s like being a small business owner with a neurodivergent brain. Ashli has ADHD, so having a career that really works well with her brain and how she thinks has made a huge difference for her.

  • 2 things Ashli wishes she would have learned sooner in her entrepreneurial journey. Ashli’s best advice would be to always trust your gut, and don’t worry so much about what other people will think of you.

  • Ashli’s favorite apps and social media platforms for her business. Ashli loves Canva Pro (an online graphic design tool), as well as a particular travel itinerary app she is able to customize for her clients, no matter what kind of trip they’re taking. Facebook is her favorite social media tool, but she also spends some time on Instagram and TikTok.

  • Advantages to working with a travel agent. When you’re working with a travel agent, they’re able to access certain things consumers don’t/can’t find. They’re also doing all of the communicating when booking your trip, making arrangements, etc. Ashli personally loves helping her clients with all of the details, and she aims to help them get the best bang for their buck.

Ashli is passionate about helping more people travel and get out of their comfort zones to experience new things, build new relationships, and become better people along the way.

Ashli and I both know that being a small business owner brings a great deal of freedom and flexibility, but it also comes with its own set of challenges. Ashli has found a career that really ‘fits’ her brain well though, and she is confident and passionate about helping her clients make travel memories they’ll never forget.

Ashli is the number one advocate when it comes to her clients, and she enjoys being a one-size-fits-all for their travel needs. Whether you’re looking for a family vacation, business venture, or a soul-searching voyage, definitely reach out to Ashli when you’re ready to plan your next travel destination!
