Earned Media Vs. Paid Media-Let’s Talk About It! with Kristin Luna

EPISODE #12 SHOW NOTES

I’m very excited to have another incredible guest, Kristin Luna, on the podcast today!

Kristin and I actually met locally, and she’s got a pretty unique background with plenty of fun things going on. Kristin is a Nashville-based writer specializing in all forms of journalism-travel, food, home renovation, entrepreneurship, and more. She’s also a photographer, videographer, public speaker, and creator of Camels & Chocolate blog (est. 2007). Kristin and her husband, Scott, founded DMA Events, a nonprofit devoted to creative placemaking through community events and the installation of murals.

Kristin is also an unabashed Taylor Swift fan. One of her wildest dreams came true when she was able to interview her for a cover story announcing the debut of her 1989 album-definitely an unforgettable moment!

In today’s episode, we’re talking about:

  • Earned media vs. paid media

  • The importance of cultivating genuine relationships with people who are writing for publications you are interested in and want to be a part of

  • Why you NEED to have some kind of online presence as a business owner

  • The best ways to really connect with your audience on social media and grab attention from someone in earned media

  • Best practices for product-based businesses who want to expand into other types of media

  • Why you should always have accurate contact information readily available so someone can get in touch with you easily

Earned media vs. paid media is definitely something we need to talk about, and understand how they can both impact our businesses.

The lines between earned media and paid media have become more blurred since social media has come into the picture-greatly due to how we consume products today. With this happening, one of the BEST ways you and your business can get noticed is to connect with and form genuine relationships with people writing for the publications you want to be a part of.

My conversation with Kristin was a blast, and I learned SO much more about earned media vs. paid media-I hope you did too! If you’ve ever been curious about earned vs. paid media and how they can work for your business, this is an episode you won’t want to miss!
